dilemma. is a daily voting app operated by an independent developer. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices. For questions, contact privacy@mydilemma.ai.
What We Collect
Information you provide
- Email address, display name, and handle (when you create an account)
- Votes, predictions, and comments
- Notification preferences (opt-in)
Collected automatically
- A one-way hash of your IP address for vote deduplication — we never store raw IP addresses
- Country and timezone (derived from IP, then discarded)
- Device type, browser info, and referrer source
From sign-in providers
If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address, name, and profile photo as provided by that service. We only request the minimum data needed for authentication and do not access your contacts, calendar, files, or any other account data.
How We Use Your Data
We use your data to:
- Provide the service — voting, results, predictions, leaderboards, streaks, and your profile
- Prevent duplicate votes and bot abuse
- Moderate comments for community safety
- Send emails you have opted into (reminders, newsletters, streak warnings)
- Monitor errors and improve the service
- Understand usage through privacy-focused, cookie-free analytics
We process your data based on our contract with you (providing the service), your consent (email notifications), and our legitimate interests (security, moderation, error monitoring, and analytics).
Advertising
dilemma. may display advertisements from third-party advertising partners, including Google. These partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our site and other websites.
If you have a premium subscription, no advertisements are shown and no advertising cookies are set.
We do not sell your personal information. You can learn more about how Google uses your data at Google's privacy page, and opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings.
Your Privacy Choices
You can control how your data is used for advertising:
- Accept or decline cookies when prompted on your first visit
- Opt out of personalized advertising via your browser or device settings
- Enable Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser — we honor this signal as a valid opt-out request
- Subscribe to premium for a completely ad-free experience
We never sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Sharing
We share data with third-party service providers who help us operate dilemma., including cloud hosting providers, database services, email delivery services, analytics providers, authentication providers, error monitoring services, and bot protection services. These providers process your data on our behalf and are contractually required to protect it.
If you sign in with Google or Apple, authentication data is exchanged with those providers as part of the sign-in process.
We publish dilemma content to social media platforms. No user data is shared with these platforms.
Cookies
We use a single first-party session cookie to identify your browser for 30 days, enabling voting without an account. It is httpOnly, secure, and is not used for tracking. We do not use third-party tracking cookies. Our analytics provider does not use cookies and does not track individuals across sites.
Data Retention
We retain your account data until you delete your account. Votes and predictions are retained indefinitely as part of aggregate statistics. IP hashes used for deduplication are automatically deleted after 90 days. Temporary data such as error logs and rate-limiting records are retained briefly and purged automatically.
Automated Processing
We use automated systems to classify your voting patterns (Oracle Personality), calculate prediction accuracy scores, and screen comments for harmful content. We also use AI services to generate voiceover audio for our social media content. None of these produce legal effects. Flagged comments are reviewed by a human moderator. You can contact us to ask about the logic behind your classification.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access, correct, delete, or export your personal data
- Object to processing or restrict how we use your data
- Withdraw consent for emails (unsubscribe link in every email, or in Settings)
- Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights
To exercise any right, email privacy@mydilemma.ai or delete your account in the app (Settings). We respond within 30 days.
EU/UK residents: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California residents: We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You may request to know, delete, or correct your personal information by emailing us.
Children
dilemma. is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we learn we have, we will delete it promptly. Contact privacy@mydilemma.ai if you believe a child has provided us with personal information.
Email Communications
If you opt in, we may send daily reminders, weekly newsletters, and streak warnings. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also manage preferences in Settings. We honor unsubscribe requests within 2 business days.
Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed IP addresses, secure httpOnly cookies, and database-level access controls. We do not store passwords — authentication uses passwordless email codes and OAuth sign-in. No system is 100% secure. If we discover a breach affecting your data, we will notify you and relevant authorities as required by law.
International Transfers
Our services are hosted in the United States. If you are outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the US. Our service providers maintain appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.
Changes
If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top and, where practical, notify you by email or in-app notice.
